Welcome to another year at Brentwood Park Elementary School!
We are looking forward to welcoming all students back and meeting our new students and families next week. We continue to grow and our school population this year will start at 643 students in 28 Divisions.
We warmly welcome 113 new children to Brentwood Park including our new Kindergarten students and say good-bye to 37 children who have moved to other countries, provinces, districts and schools over the summer. Here is some information for our students and families about our first week back.
THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: TUESDAY SEPT. 2rd, 2025 @ 8:59AM -10AM
Grade 1-7 students attend from 8:59-10:00. Students will go to their classroom from last year.
***Please refer to the attachments sent to all families by email for a “Welcome” chart and a map showing room assignments for Tuesday, Sept. 2nd, as well as the remainder of the first week and into next week. Some rooms have changed from last year due to construction and new staff, so read carefully.
New students will report to the library on the first day (the library faces the alley just past the main office entrance and flagpole). All students will be dismissed at 10am. We will welcome them and let them know the classroom they will be in for the rest of the week.
Parents: Please join other family members of our community for coffee and a PAC sponsored ‘Mix and Mingle’ between 9:00 and 10:00 near the playground and undercover area.
THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL
From Wednesday, September 3rd to Tuesday, September 9th, Grade 1-7 students will report to their “homeroom” grouping. Information about homerooms and locations has been sent to all families and will be posted around the school. New students will receive “homeroom” information on Tuesday, Sept. 2nd.
During the first week, Grade 1-7 students will focus on learning activities within their homeroom class and will be rotating through various stations throughout the week. Our school-wide theme for our first week is ‘3Cs: Care for Ourselves, Care for Others and Care for Our Community’. During the first week, we will build on our school’s ‘Me to We’ journey and focus on our school’s motto. We will work on explicitly identifying ways we can support ourselves, others and our community.
***All Grade 1-7 students should bring a recess snack, healthy lunch, running shoes and a water bottle each day. Grade 4-7 students are also asked to bring a pencil, colouring materials and scissors if possible.
KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS
Students entering Kindergarten do not come to school on Tuesday, Sept. 2nd. Their ‘Welcome to Kindergarten event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 3rd. Please join us outside Modulars 22 & 23. Contact bpkindergarten@burnabyschools.ca if you are unsure of your child’s group or time.
We would like to extend a heart-felt thank-you to the Brentwood Park families and staff members who tended the community garden this summer. We had some trials and tribulations to work through and are grateful for the care, flexibility and commitment the community showed. There was also inspiration to install a beautiful little book lending library.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Health and Safety Information:
- Illness: Please do not come to school or send your child to school sick. If a student becomes ill while at school, the office will contact you to pick up your child in a timely manner. If you know your child is going to be absent, please call the school and leave a message or email the office staff at brentwoodpark.info@burnabyschools.ca
School Supplies:
- Kindergarten to Grade 3 children will receive information about school supplies once they are in their new class for the year. We charge $35 to cover school supplies that are shared by students in our Kindergarten to Grade 3 classes.
- Grade 4-7 students can find the school supply list on our website https://brentwood.burnabyschools.ca/supply-lists/
Code of Conduct and Cell Phone Use Expectations:
- There is a Burnaby School District Code of Conduct that includes student use expectations of
personal digital devices. Students must have all cell phones on silent mode and out of sight (stored) during school hours. There may be an exception if the device is needed for educational purposes or accessibility/medical reasons, and clear expectations are set by the teacher. - Please read the Code of Conduct Burnaby School District Code of Conduct and discuss it as well as the cell phone use expectations with your children, especially if your child has a cell phone. Elementary Cell Phone Use
- We strongly recommend that children do not bring phones to school if at all possible. We have an
office phone that children can use to call parents if needed.
Parking:
- There is a new staff parking lot off Delta Avenue – please respect that this lot is for staff parking only. We encourage our families to walk to school if at all possible. If it is not possible, there is a new ‘kiss and go’ drop-off for parents in the horseshoe off of Delta in front of the Kindergarten modulars. Please do not park, just drop your child(ren) and go. If your child(ren) are little and need to be walked to Brentwood, there is street parking within the neighbourhood as well as lots of parking behind the Alliance Church off Delta Avenue for families. There is a crosswalk across Delta near the church parking lot to use. In addition, the alleys on the north and south of Brentwood are closed or used for construction access so please do not use them. Please work together to abide by the expectations to keep our children safe.
- There will be two parking spots for our children with accessibility needs near the tennis courts and one spot in the staff lot nearer the portables. Please save these spots for our kids with mobility challenges.
Hot Lunch and ‘Pack-in Pack-out’ Policy:
- We will be offering Hot Lunch starting the week of Sept. 15th once we are in our new classes. The Lunch Lady will provide lunches to those who order on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. PAC offers different Hot Lunch options on Thursdays. More details will come soon about ordering. There will be subsidy options for the families in need.
- Whether your child brings their own lunch or orders from the Brentwood Park offerings, we have a ‘pack-in, pack-out’ policy so students will bring home all unfinished food and all packaging.
Proof of Enrolment Letters:
- If you are requesting a letter from the office, the office is unable to complete letters during peak times such as school start-up (September) and school closing (June). Please give lots of notice if a letter is required.
PAC Event and the Parent Advisory Council:
- Come and join some of our PAC (Parent Advisory Council) Executive Members and meet members of the community for a coffee while your child(ren) attends on Tuesday morning.
- All parents are members of the school PAC. We are always looking for more parents to help plan, organize and volunteer for fun events that benefit the school. You can learn more from the PAC Corner section of our website.https://brentwood.burnabyschools.ca/pac/
See you soon. Here’s to another hearty year of learning as we grow together as a community.
