September Return to School

Happy August everyone.

September is almost here. A new school year is upon us, and we are excited to welcome our students back. Here is some information for our students and families about our first week back.

BEFORE SCHOOL BEGINS

Staff will be in the office on Monday, August 28th to Wednesday, August 30th, 2023 from 9am—3pm.

We will not be accepting any in-person registrations. If you live in the Brentwood Park catchment area, please visit.  https://burnabyschools.ca/registration

The new supply lists for 2023-2024 supply lists can be found here.

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL:  TUESDAY SEPT. 5th, 2023 @ 8:55AM -10AM

On Tuesday, September 5th, 2023 at 8:55am, Grade 1 – 7 students should report to their last year’s classroom to be welcomed back from their summer vacation.

New students will report to the library on the first day (the library faces the alley just past the main office entrance and flagpole). All students will be dismissed at 10am.

All parents are invited to an informal get together in or just outside the gym from 9-10am. This will give you a chance to meet and catch up with friends and community members.

THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL

From Wednesday, September 6th to Friday, September 8th students will report to their “homeroom” groupings. Information about homerooms and locations will go home on Tuesday, September 5th.
Our school motto is:

“Care for Yourself, Care for Each Other, and Care for our Community”

During the first week, we will explore each of these facets in a deep and meaningful way to ensure that each member of our community has a shared understanding of what this motto means. We will begin to explore our personal and social core competencies both together and individually. Students will be engaged in a variety of activities during our first week.

One of the springboard resources we will use is the book titled Be a Good Ancestor written by Leona Prince and Gabrielle Prince.

Once we receive district approval, we hope to be able to assign students to their new classrooms on Tuesday, September 12th.

KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS

Students entering Kindergarten do not come to school on Tuesday, Sept. 5th. Their ‘Welcome to Our School’ event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 6th and then their gradual entry schedule
will begin. Please refer to the email you should have received in June regarding specific times and details.

See you in September.  It is going to be a fantastic year of learning together as a community.
